I recently was flipping through a non-descript periodical at the grocery store when the page opened up to one of those self-help posts, something designed to make the average reader's life better and more fulfilling. More often than not I laugh at these half-hearted and impractical suggestions, but the one I came across actually seemed to sound reasonable.
End the day with a list of three good things that happened to you, or that you saw, read, heard or did. Your day will end with a smile, even in the most stressful of situations.
Hmm, okay. I can do that.
1. I bought a pint of chocolate ice cream with extra coins I found in my junk drawer. I haven't had ice cream in my freezer since I don't know when, and having that container of Ultra Chocolate in there makes me smile. Not that I'm that into ice cream - but when I want something cold and sweet, whoop - there it is.
2. I cleaned my apartment in a frenzy today, and after I got done, I felt very accomplished. Papers stacked for filing tomorrow, dishes soaking in the sink, laundry folded and put away, hamper empty, bills paid.
3. I made a great dinner for my boyfriend and his kids, and it was a huge success. I got the recipe online, and after looking at the ingredients and imagining how excellent it would taste, the prep and dinner went off without a hitch and the meal was awesome. Lemon Rosemary Chicken with Parsnips, Capsicum and Zucchini. Yum.
